Hintersee - Traunsteiner Hütte - Wachterl

From the bus stop, head toward Klausbachtal valley and follow the signs to Halsalm (Trail No. 472). After a steep climb to Halsgrube, turn left onto the Böselsteig. This steep trail, secured with cables in places, climbs through the eastern flank of Reiter Alm, crossing grassy slopes dotted with trees and rocky terrain before reaching the Steinberg ridge. Here, you’ll get your first view across the high plateau.

Descend through Steinberggasse and continue across the Reiter Alm plateau. Later, the trail leads through mountain pine before reaching the alpine pastures around Neue Traunsteiner Hütte.

From Neue Traunsteiner Hütte, follow the signs toward Wachterl (Trail No. 470). The trail leads through forest, past ancient stone pines, and continues with a series of ascents and descents along the Wachterlsteig to the Wachterl hiking parking lot. This is where today’s stage ends.
