Kärlingerhaus - Hundstodgatterl - Wimbachbrücke

The third stage of the Berchtesgaden Summit Trail takes you from Kärlingerhaus via Hundstodgatterl and Trischübl into Wimbachgries and on to Wimbachbrücke.

Your stage begins at Kärlingerhaus, which offers overnight accommodations. You’ll hike past Viehkogel toward Ingolstädter Haus. Up here, it becomes very clear why Steinernes Meer (Stone Sea) truly lives up to its name. You’ll ascend via the Alpiner Steig to Hundstodgatterl. From here, with the Watzmann’s southern peak always in view, you’ll descend steeply to Trischübl and on into the Wimbachgries. This descent is very strenuous. It’s a good thing you can refuel at Wimbachgrieshütte. The trail through Wimbachgries, past Wimbachschloss to Wimbachbrücke slopes gently downward. Wimbachgries impresses with its unique landscape, while the scree stream imperceptibly carries the debris down into the valley.
