The following ten environmental rules of the German Ski Federation (DSV) apply to ski tourers and snowshoers:
Before you head out, check for designated protected zones and sensitive areas—and give them a wide berth. If marked ascent and descent routes are available, follow them.
Pay attention to route markings, protected area notices, and other signage.
Avoid creating unnecessary new tracks. Whenever possible, travel through mountain forests on roads and established paths to minimize disturbance to wildlife.
Only start your tour when there is sufficient snow cover. Do not descend through reforestation areas, young growth, or shrub zones. Damage can occur even when there is a deep snow cover.
Out of respect for wildlife, avoid making unnecessary noise.
