Nature’s masterpieces

Bavaria’s most beautiful geotopes

Three of Berchtesgaden’s natural highlights have earned a place among “Bavaria’s 100 most beautiful geotopes,” awarded by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment: the Watzmann East Face with the Eiskapelle (Ice Chapel), the Zauberwald at Hintersee, and the Steinerne Agnes rock formation in the Latten Mountains.

The Ice Chapel near Königssee has unfortunately collapsed—whether it will form again remains uncertain.
