Cycling & Mountain Biking

Discover Berchtesgaden on two wheels

Pedal for miles. Through valleys, along lakes, up to alpine pastures – whether on a mountain bike, road bike, or leisure bike, powered by your own strength or a little electric boost: exploring Berchtesgaden and the region around the Watzmann by bike is simply one of the most rewarding ways to experience it.

Cycling in Berchtesgaden National Park

To protect sensitive habitats and avoid conflicts with other visitors, cycling in Berchtesgaden National Park is only permitted on designated routes. Nearly 50 kilometers of marked trails await—including newly opened routes currently being tested for cyclists. Most trails follow gravel forestry roads, some of them steep, and are also shared with hikers.

As you explore this protected area, please keep in mind:

  • Ride carefully, adjust your speed, and be mindful of others.

  • Avoid dawn and nighttime – for the sake of wildlife.

  •  Take your trash with you and avoid noise.

  • Plan your route according to your fitness level and ability, and check current conditions before you go.
