Mount Hoher Göll

The mighty massif surrounding Hoher Göll, rising to 2,522 meters

At 2,522 meters, Hoher Göll stands as the dominant summit of the massif that bears its name. But there’s more to discover here: if you’re an ambitious mountain hiker, the 2,340-meter-high Hohes Brett offers the perfect peak to aim for. And just beyond, iconic destinations like the Eagle's Nest and Mount Jenner form part of the southeastern edge of the Berchtesgaden Alps.

Peaks & mountain huts in the Göll massif

Alongside the 2,522-meter-high Hoher Göll, the main massif is defined by the key summits Hohes Brett and Hinteres Freieck along the eastern Kuchler Kamm (Kuchler Ridge). To the north, Rossfeld, Zinken, and the striking Barmsteine rise ahead of the massif, while Kehlstein lies to the west and Jenner to the south.

As a mountaineer, you’ll find essential base camps along the way: Purtschellerhaus in the north and Stahlhaus, open year-round, in the south are key stops on the classic Göll–Brett traverse. Schneibsteinhaus, set at the transition to the Hagen Mountains, also makes an ideal starting point—especially for routes up Hohes Brett.

If you take the narrow Mandlgrat variation, you can hop on the Kehlstein bus line to shorten your ascent to Hoher Göll.
