Kastensteinerwand
“’s Wandei”: Bischofswiesen’s most scenic viewpoint- Open at all times
- Bischofswiesen
Locals call the steep, forest-framed rock face rising behind the center of Bischofswiesen “Wandei.” At the top of Kastensteinerwand, the viewpoint of the same name rewards you with spectacular views of Watzmann.
Hike up to Kastensteinerwand
From the center of Bischofswiesen, follow a popular walking trail through the Datzmannsiedlung neighborhood toward Maximilians-Reitweg. After about 500 meters heading northwest, turn right onto Blitzweg, the trail leading up to Kastensteinerwand. More than ten switchbacks take you nearly 200 meters uphill to the viewpoint.
For a gentler approach, come from the east. The route along the road makes a convenient detour when hiking Maximilians-Reitweg from Aschauerweiher. You can also drive as far as Kastensteinerwand-Alm restaurant. The road is narrow and steep in places, but well maintained.
