Wimbachbrücke - Eisbodenscharte - Hintersee

Stage 4 of the Berchtesgaden Summit Trail takes you from Wimbachbrücke via Eckaualm, Hochalm, and Eisbodenscharte to Blaueishütte, followed by the descent to Lake Hintersee.

Start at Wimbachbrücke and hike into Wimbachgries. Above Wimbachklamm gorge, turn onto the Schattseitweg, which follows the base of Hochkalter to Eckaualm. From there, climb numerous switchbacks to the steep alpine meadows of Hochalm. Cross Hochalm and continue to the rock face below Schärtenspitze. From here to Eisbodenscharte, the route becomes more challenging.

You’re almost there: One final climb takes you to Schärtenspitze, where spectacular views await. Then descend on a steep, rocky trail to Blaueishütte—the perfect place for a well-earned break and refreshments. Continue downhill on the forest road, passing Schärtenalm along the way. From there, it’s not far to Lake Hintersee.
