The ALMErlebnisBUS connects Berchtesgaden National Park with Weißbach Nature Park in the Salzburg Saalachtal valley. This allows you to explore the expansive nature reserve in complete comfort—regardless of your hiking ability. The ALMErlebnisBUS also connects two mountaineering villages: Ramsau, Germany’s first mountaineering village, and Weißbach near Lofer in the Salzburg Saalachtal.
From Hintersee in Ramsau to Weißbach near Lofer, Austria
The ALMErlebnisBUS departs from Klausbachhaus at Hintersee in the mountaineering village of Ramsau. From there, you’ll travel past the numerous alpine pastures of the Klausbachtal valley along the historic Salt Trail to the Hirschbichl border crossing and on to Weißbach near Lofer in the Saalachtal valley in Salzburg.
Klausbachtal: The valley of alpine pastures and eagles
Numerous alpine pastures line the route of the ALMErlebnisBUS or can be reached after a short walk. These include Halsalm, Ragertalm, and Bindalm. The Hirschbichl Pass, with its mountain restaurant of the same name, marks the border between Germany and Austria. On the Austrian side, you can hike to Litzlalm, Kammerlingalm, and Kallbrunnalm. Enjoy a well-deserved break at the Jausenstation–a traditional alpine snack stop–at Litzlalm or Kallbrunnalm. The Klausbachtal valley invites you to discover the diverse alpine landscape between Bavaria and Austria.
The Klausbachtal valley is also known as the Valley of the Eagles. Berchtesgaden National Park offers various opportunities to observe golden eagles—for example, on guided hikes or via live footage at Klausbachhaus, transmitted by a camera mounted at an eagle’s nest. At the eagle observation station, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the golden eagles’ breeding, hunting, and soaring areas.
Other attractions in the Klausbachtal valley include the suspension bridge and the viewing platform at the wildlife feeding area. Both destinations are accessible and allow you to enjoy impressive nature experiences even if you have limited mobility.
