Permanent exhibition in a historic farmhouse- Heute geöffnet
- Ramsau
Originally an old farmhouse, the Klausbachhaus is now the visitor center for Berchtesgaden National Park, located at the entrance to the Klausbach Valley—the valley of eagles and alpine pastures
Located at the entrance to the Klausbach Valley is the “Klausbachhaus,” as the Berchtesgaden National Park information center is also known. This historic farmhouse houses the interactive permanent exhibition “1,000 Years of Ups and Downs,” which explores the theme of alpine pastures, across two floors. What was alpine life like in the past, what is it like today, and what makes this habitat so unique for people, animals, and plants? You’ll find the answers in a fun and engaging way. Stop by!
History of the Klausbachhaus
Originally, the Klausbachhaus was the residence of the Laros fief, a Berchtesgaden farmstead in Unterau. It took on its current form in 1757, but in the second half of the 20th century, it was increasingly left to decay: After the building was donated to the Berchtesgaden National Park in 1992, preparations began for the relocation of the historic building. The upper floor, constructed of wood, was dismantled beam by beam, and the stone walls on the ground floor, stone by stone. Each part was numbered, and the house was reassembled at its new location true to the original. Following the successful reconstruction, the opening of the Berchtesgaden National Park information center—now known as the Klausbachhaus—was celebrated on July 1, 1995.
