Berchtesgaden High-Altitude Trail

100 kilometers in six stages

The six stages of the Berchtesgaden High-Altitude Trail will test your endurance—but every step is worth it. Starting in Berchtesgaden, you climb up to Mount Jenner before descending via Königsbachalm to Lake Königssee.

On day two, the Grünstein mountain—rising just in front of Watzmann—rewards you with sweeping views across the Berchtesgaden valley. Once you’ve taken it all in, continue on to Kührointalm. Nearby, the Archenkanzel viewpoint opens up breathtaking views of Lake Königssee, framed by dramatic rock faces. Along the way, stop at one of the alpine pasture huts for a hearty snack—fresh milk, homemade cheese, or a slice of bread topped with bacon.

The trail then leads you toward Ramsau, where you cross the Klausbach Valley and climb up to Halsalm. Here, the mountains reveal their full grandeur, stretching all the way to the striking Hoher Göll massif.

From Hintersee, your route climbs steadily past Mordaualm to the Hirscheck cable car. Ride effortlessly to the summit and soak in panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

The final two stages take you past Scheibenkaser, across lush alpine meadows, through the Almbachklamm gorge, and back uphill to Oberau—before continuing on to Obersalzberg.
