Wimbachbrücke - Schattseitweg - Hintersee

Stage 3 takes you through Wimbachklamm gorge, along the Schattseitweg up to Halsalm, and down to Lake Hintersee.

Start at the Wimbachbrücke parking lot and hike through Wimbachklamm gorge with its thundering waterfalls. Then follow the signs toward Eckaualm and continue onto the Schattseitweg. The trail follows the base of the Hochkalter massif for quite some distance before reaching Lake Hintersee. At the wooden pavilion known as Paraplü, you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the lake.

Continue toward Klausbachhaus, where the information point offers insights into Berchtesgaden National Park. After following the trail into Klausbachtal valley for a short distance, turn right and climb up to Halsalm. From there, enjoy spectacular views across the Ramsau valley and into the Berchtesgaden mountains. After a well-earned break at the alpine pasture, descend the steep trail to Lake Hintersee.
