The Klausbachtal valley is known not only as the Valley of Eagles and Vultures, but also as the Valley of Alpine Pastures. Numerous huts and pastures line the old mountain pass over Hirschbichl. Ragertalm is one of the easiest to reach.

From the Klausbachhaus National Park Information Point at Lake Hintersee, you can reach Ragertalm in about an hour. The route initially follows the road before continuing on wide footpaths with only a gentle incline into the Klausbachtal valley. At the eagle observation station at Au, you can take a break and keep an eye out for these majestic birds. Only the final stretch to Ragertalm becomes a little steeper.

Watch out for cyclists on the road through the Klausbachtal valley. The trail to Ragertalm is also open to cyclists.

Directions

Your hike to Ragertalm starts at Klausbachhaus, the National Park Information Point at the entrance to the Klausbachtal valley. Klausbachtal is one of the main valleys in Berchtesgaden National Park. It is known for its golden eagles and is also the site of the annual release of bearded vultures into the wild. In the past, this route was an important salt trading route. Packhorse drivers crossed the border at Hirschbichl Pass, carrying Berchtesgaden’s “white gold” out into the world. A paved road therefore runs through the valley and is popular with mountain bikers and cyclists. During the summer months, the ALMErlebnisBUS also runs along this route between Ramsau and Weißbach bei Lofer.

On foot, you can follow a separate trail away from the road and reach Ragertalm in about an hour. Start out on Hirschbichlstraße, then continue on wide footpaths with only a gentle incline into Klausbachtal valley. Only the final stretch to Ragertalm becomes a little steeper.
