Lattenbergalm sits on a high plateau in the Lattengebirge mountain range. You can reach it via the narrow Ramsau Almerlebnisweg, a scenic hiking trail connecting the region's alpine pastures, which links Lattenbergalm with Mordaualm and Moosenalm.

High alpine pasture in the Lattengebirge

Lattenbergalm lies at elevations between 1,457 and 1,481 meters in the Lattengebirge mountain range. It serves as the high alpine pasture for the lower-lying Mordaualm. Because of its elevation, the pasture is grazed only by young cattle during the height of summer. In early and late summer, the livestock remain on the lower alpine pasture.

The Ramsau Almerlebnisweg trail

Lattenbergalm is one of the stops along Ramsau Almerlebnisweg, a scenic hiking trail connecting the region's alpine pastures. The trail also passes Mordaualm and Moosenalm. It was developed with support from Milchwerke Berchtesgadener Land, the regional dairy cooperative, and features 13 interpretive panels where you can learn more about traditional mountain farming and alpine pasture management in the Berchtesgaden Alps.

Alpine summer in Berchtesgaden

The tradition of alpine farming

The romantic image of life on an alpine pasture rarely reflects reality. Working on an alpine pasture is demanding, and the days are long.

  • Intangible Cultural Heritage

Alpine farming plays an outstanding role in Berchtesgaden — economically, culturally, and in shaping the landscape. With its official inclusion in Bavaria’s register of Intangible Cultural Heritage, this unique form of land stewardship is now also recognized at the political level.
