A short hike from Klaushöhe on Obersalzberg to the lesser-known lower Ahornalm along Rossfeld Panorama Road.

A scenic trail leads from the road connecting Klaushöhe and Buchenhöhe through the forest and up to the lower Ahornalm. Ahornalm along Rossfeld Panoramic Road is divided into two alpine pastures: The lower Ahornalm, near Enzianhütte, is the lower pasture, or Niederalm, while the upper Ahornalm is the upper pasture, or Hochalm. The livestock spend the first few weeks of the alpine pasture season at the lower Ahornalm before moving up to the upper Ahornalm for the remainder of the summer.

The trail through the forest can be slippery when wet.

Directions

From the Klaushöhe parking lot, follow the road toward Buchenhöhe. At an impressive bridge over Larosbach stream, turn onto the hiking trail. According to the trail sign, Ahornalm is about an hour away. Follow a wide gravel path uphill alongside the stream before continuing into the forest. After a short distance, turn right onto a signposted trail. This beautiful, natural path winds through dense forest, with grasses, ferns, and wildflowers lining the way. Simple wooden walkways take you across small streams and dips in the terrain. After gaining about 250 meters in elevation, you emerge from the forest and pass through a rustic gate onto the alpine pasture.

Return to the starting point either along the same trail or via Rossfeld Panorama Road.
