Lower Ahornalm

Just off Rossfeld Panoramic Road near Enzianhütte and the Grassl Gentian Distillery, Lower Ahornalm welcomes you with authentic alpine charm. It serves as the lower pasture for the higher Upper Ahornalm.

Perlerkaser – a serviced alpine pasture hut

Three traditional mountain huts, known locally as Kaser, and a service hut make up Lower Ahornalm. Perlerkaser is the only hut open to visitors. At the beginning and end of the alpine grazing season, the cattle from Perlerlehen spend their time on Lower Ahornalm before moving higher up to Upper Ahornalm for the rest of the summer. Fresh milk is transformed right on the alp into butter and cheese, including the flavorful Schüsselkas, one of Berchtesgaden’s signature cheese specialties.

Hiking and biking to Lower Ahornalm

Reach Lower Ahornalm on a scenic hike from Obersalzberg. If you're up for more, continue via Eckersattel to Purtschellerhaus or Rossfeld. Rossfeld Panorama Road is also a favorite climb for road cyclists and mountain bikers, who often stop at Perlerkaser for a well-earned break. Arriving by car? You'll find parking near the alpine pasture along Rossfeld Panorama Road.
