Stage eight of the SalzAlpenSteig from Bischofswiesen to Ramsau starts at the Tourist Information in Bischofswiesen. Follow the Bischofswiesener Ache toward Winkl, pass the small community, and continue to Grubenbach. There, cross Reichenhaller Straße, the railroad tracks, and a small wooden bridge, then turn right onto a gravel path.
After a short distance, turn left and cross Schneckenmühlweg. Continue along Pfaffenkogelweg into the forest, keeping straight ahead. At a narrow section, cross the Frechenbach stream and turn left onto Klaushäuslweg, passing a small wayside shrine. Just a few meters farther on, you’ll see Bichlmühle on your left.
Stay on Klaushäuslweg, cross the Weißbach stream, and continue to a narrow clearing. Above the Frechenbach, follow the gravel road through light mixed forest with the sound of the rushing water below. Cross a bridge over the Frechenbach, continue straight ahead, and follow Tongraben. After a wide right-hand bend, a gravel road climbs through the open forest alongside the Marchlmühlbach stream.
At the fork, keep right and pass Frechenbachklause. Stay on this forest road for quite some time, turning right once and then continuing along the trail toward Mordaualm.
Cross the alpine pastures of Mordaualm and begin your descent through Klausgraben by turning left after the alpine pasture. Follow a relatively steep section downhill, continue straight across an intersection, and stay on the road toward Ramsau. Walk downhill for about twenty minutes through idyllic meadows with grazing cows until you reach a small wooded area. After leaving the woods, keep left and follow the paved road. At Kaltback, turn left onto a narrow meadow trail that leads into the forest and then back out again.
Here on Soleleitungsweg, the brine pipeline trail, you’ll find several benches where you can take a break and enjoy the surroundings. A little farther on, cross the main road to reach Zipfhäusl.
Directions to the end of the stage:
Just after Zipfhäusl, turn right onto Schluchtweg and follow the stream steadily downhill until you reach the main road, with the popular photo spot of the Ramsau church on your right. Turn left and follow the main road for a few hundred meters until you reach the municipal administration and Tourist Information of the mountaineering village of Ramsau on your left.
