This hike takes you along the Königsseer Fußweg to the Jennerbahn, then continues past the bobsled and luge track and via Hanauerstein through Schönau. Finally, follow the Hinterschönauer Weg to the Wimbachbrücke hiking parking lot.
Right at the start, the first highlight awaits you. The trail along the Königsseer Ache has rightly been named Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail. The cheerful murmur of the stream accompanies you for quite a while until you turn off and hike from the Jennerbahn valley station through the forest to the famous Malerwinkel. From Malerwinkel, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Lake Königssee. Following the lakeshore, you’ll reach the center of Schönau am Königssee. At the graduation house, where brine trickles over bundles of branches to create salt-enriched air, take a deep breath before continuing through Oberschönau toward Hammerstiel. You’ll hike downhill across pastures and through small woods to Wimbachbrücke, the destination of your first stage.
