At an elevation of 1,423 meters, Wasseralm is a small German Alpine Club hut in an area known as Röth. This mountain basin between Hagengebirge and Steinernes Meer is a dream destination for mountaineers. The distinctive Teufelshörner peaks and Funtenseetauern tower above the area.

Wasseralm is separated from Lake Obersee by the 700-meter-high Röthwand rock face. Röthbach Waterfall cascades down the rock face in several stages. With a total drop of 479 meters, it is Germany’s highest waterfall.
Staying overnight at Wasseralm
On your way from Gotzenalm to Lake Funtensee, Wasseralm offers simple overnight accommodations and is an important stop on the Große Reibn. This extensive route around Lake Königssee is best known as a multi-day ski tour, but it also makes a rewarding hut-to-hut hike in summer. Until 2005, Wasseralm was an unstaffed, self-catering hut; since then, it has been staffed with basic services. Up to 40 guests can spend the night in the shared dormitory. Because space is limited, be sure to reserve well in advance, especially on weekends and during the August peak season. Due to the limited capacity, you cannot stay at Wasseralm for multiple nights. A winter room is open year-round.
