Located below Jenner, Königsbachalm mountain restaurant is a rewarding destination in its own right and an ideal stop on longer hikes through the Hagengebirge mountain range. Relax in a cozy alpine setting surrounded by grazing cattle and traditional Kaser, alpine huts, while enjoying a hearty snack with spectacular mountain views.
The mountain restaurant at Königsbachalm is fully open from May through October. From Königssee, you can reach Königsbachalm via the Hochbahnweg trail in about one and a half hours. For a shorter hike, take the Jennerbahn to the mid-station and continue on foot along the Königsweg trail.
Hiking around Königssee and Jenner
Königsbachalm is a popular stop for hikes around Jenner and the alpine pastures above Lake Königssee. From the Jennerbahn mid-station, the gently graded Königsweg trail leads to Königsbachalm.
Many mountaineers also stop here to rest during longer hikes. The alpine meadows are home to numerous marmots, known locally in Berchtesgaden as Mankei. Some of their burrow entrances are located just a few meters from the hiking trail. On a guided marmot hike with Berchtesgaden National Park, you can observe these charming alpine animals in their natural habitat.
From Königsbachalm, numerous hiking routes continue to destinations such as Priesbergalm, Büchsenalm, and Königstalalm. You can also reach Schneibsteinhaus and Carl-von-Stahl-Haus from here.
Königsbachalm is also a popular stop for mountaineers heading into Hagengebirge, as well as for ski tourers tackling the Kleine Reibn or Große Reibn in winter. Please note that Königsbachalm is closed during the winter season.
By mountain bike
You can also reach Königsbachalm by mountain bike. From Berchtesgaden, the route climbs via Faselsberg to Hinterbrand before continuing along a forest road to Königsbachalm.
If you're looking for a bigger challenge, continue on to Gotzenalm. Despite its length and steep climbs, the mountain bike route to Gotzenalm is one of the classic rides in the Berchtesgaden Alps.
The shortest way to Königsbachalm by mountain bike follows the Hochbahn trail. This steep route, which is narrow in places, is officially open to cyclists.
