On the way to Watzmannhaus or Kühroint, you'll come across Schapbachalm. This traditional alpine pasture is a popular place to take a break for hikers, mountaineers, and mountain bikers alike.
Between Watzmann and Königssee
Just below Kühroint, you'll find Schapbachalm, nestled between Königssee and Watzmann. Here you can enjoy cheese made right on the alpine pasture by the local farmers. However, the focus of the alpine summer at Schapbachalm is on the livestock.
On the way to Watzmann
You can reach Schapbachalm from both Ramsau and Schönau. It's also an easy stop with only a short detour if you're hiking to Watzmannhaus. Or you can ride your mountain bike from Wimbachbrücke in Ramsau to Schapbachalm.
In winter, ski mountaineers pass Schapbachalm on their way to Watzmannkar. This popular ski tour to the Third Watzmann Child leads across the area of the alpine pasture before leaving it at the so-called Bezin Curve, where the route enters the forest and continues toward Watzmannkar.
