Chef Thomas Graßl conjures up Bavarian delicacies or Mediterranean delicacies from the best regional ingredients. Game from the Berchtesgaden National Park or meat from the Ramsau farmers are prepared as well as fine cakes. There are wonderful hiking trails around the "Wachterl".

History of the Wachterl

At the time of the princely provostship of Berchtesgaden, the Wachterl Pass was the border between the independent ecclesiastical principality and Bavaria. This border was of course constantly guarded, hence the name "Wacht". Even back then, the "Wachterl" inn at the top of the pass was a hostel and refreshment stop for people and animals. The historic brine pipeline from the Berchtesgaden salt mine to the saltworks in Bad Reichenhall also ran over the pass.
