Mountain restaurants and "Jausenstationen"

A special type of mountain hut is the mountain restaurant. Many of them are easy to reach by car or cable car. You’ll usually enjoy hearty Bavarian cuisine there—made even better by the crisp alpine air and sweeping views. Overnight stays usually aren’t available.

A special feature in Austria is the “Jausenstation”: these are mountain huts offering simple fare, usually without overnight accommodations. You’ll also find them on the alpine pastures in the border region between Berchtesgaden and the Salzburg region—for example, at Kallbrunnalm and Litzlalm.
