At the Kallbrunnalm bus stop, follow the road branching off straight ahead and climb through the dense Weissbachwald forest. At the bend, cross a stream and continue to the small pasture of Weissbachalm at 1,120 meters. At the next fork, take the left branch, pass Ehmahd Reit, then keep right. Trail no. 401 now climbs steeply through the shady forest on the slopes of Hochkranz. At a left-hand bend, cross a small stream and follow the trail in a wide curve to the right until you emerge onto the first open meadow of Kallbrunnalm. After another stretch through the forest, you’ll reach the expansive alpine pasture.
Kallbrunnalm lies at an elevation of 1,400 to 1,600 meters and was first mentioned in historical records in 1385. It originally belonged to the Berchtesgaden monastery. During the summer months, around 350 head of cattle from 30 farms graze here. Follow trail no. 401 around the right-hand bend, keep left at the fork, and turn left again at the edge of the forest. After about one kilometer, you’ll reach the dam at Dießbach Reservoir, with Seehorn to your left and Praghorn to your right. Head back through the forest, pass the first turnoff at the forest edge, then keep left. Trail no. 411 takes you to Jausenstation Kallbrunnalm at 1,454 meters. Here, you can enjoy hearty home-style cooking in a rustic setting, along with views of Kammerlinghorn and Seehorn to the northeast and the Leoganger Steinberge mountains to the southwest.
Follow trail no. 411 down to Pürzlbach. Turn right there and continue toward Stockklaus. At Gasthaus Lohfeyer, catch the ALMErlebnisBUS back to Ramsau-Hintersee.
