Hike to Halsalm

This varied loop hike to Halsalm first takes you through the Klausbachtal valley and then up to the traditionally managed Halsalm alpine pasture.

Pass the Hintersee information point of Berchtesgaden National Park and follow the paved road for a short distance before turning right. A steadily climbing trail takes you up to Halsalm. From the alpine pasture hut, continue along a narrow trail across the pasture, enjoying magnificent views of Lake Hintersee and Ramsau  along the way. Continue toward Ramsau and the Fernseben parking lot. From there, follow the footpath alongside the road back to your starting point.

The descent via Antonigrabensteig is steep and challenging.

Directions

From the parking lot at Klausbachhaus, follow Hirschbichlstraße for about 500 meters. At the end of the fenced meadow, take the wide alpine pasture road toward Halsgrube. Continue uphill in broad switchbacks, passing the turnoff for Böslsteig, a challenging mountain trail leading up to Reiter Alm. The route then continues below Hohes Gerstfeld to the alpine pastures of Halsalm. At the hut and the picnic area by the alpine cross, you can enjoy magnificent views of Lake Hintersee.

For the descent, either take the challenging mountain trail along Antonigraben directly down to Lake Hintersee or choose the easier route to the Fernseben parking lot and continue alongside the road. Follow the lakeshore and then the road for the final few hundred meters back to the parking lot at the Hintersee information point of Berchtesgaden National Park. Public restrooms are also available here.
