Because of its proximity to the Schellenberg Ice Cave, the Toni Lenz hut is also known as the Ice Cave Hut. The varied hike up to the hut rewards you with a sweeping panoramic view.
From the parking lot at the Berchtesgadener Ache, you’ll make a brisk ascent along a beautiful old sunken path through a sparse beech forest. About halfway up, you’ll leave the road behind and follow a narrow trail toward the tree line, where the shade thins out and the view opens up. Over the last few meters, the trail winds in switchbacks through scattered fields of mountain pine until it reaches the Toni Lenz hut. Here you can take a well-deserved break and then return to the starting point via the same route. Or you can hike a little further to the Schellenberg Ice Cave.
