The warmest swimming lake in Bavaria: Abtsdorfer See
In the summer, Abtsdorfer See—which locals call Abtsee for short—is a popular swimming lake. It is one of the warmest lakes in Upper Bavaria, and many even believe that Abtsdorfer See is the warmest lake in Bavaria. As early as May, the water reaches up to 17° Celsius, and in midsummer, it can reach temperatures of up to 26° Celsius. In addition, Abtsee is certainly the lake with the most fish in all of Bavaria. Its dark, brownish color is characteristic: this is due to the Haarmoos bog that surrounds the lake.
Haarmoos Nature Reserve
Lake Abtsdorf is surrounded by the Haarmoos. The former Haarsee was drained in the 18th century to create agricultural land. Today, the Haarmoos is a protected landscape area with a diverse flora. Hiking through the moor and heathland or around Lake Abtsdorf is very popular, as are guided nature tours along the Haarmoos nature reserve. The signposted bike paths around Abtsdorfer See, such as the Badeseen Bike Path or the Moor and Moos Bike Path, wind through river floodplains or over gentle rolling hills and are suitable for everyone. The characteristic village inns invite you to stop for a leisurely break.
