Schneibsteinhaus

Nestled between Jenner, Hohes Brett, and Schneibstein, Schneibsteinhaus is an Alpine Club hut operated by the Berchtesgaden Section in Hagengebirge. The hut makes an ideal base for longer alpine tours.

At an elevation of 1,670 meters, Schneibsteinhaus is easy to reach from Jenner, making it a popular destination for hikers. Mountaineers also use Schneibsteinhaus as a base for longer tours in Hagengebirge or the Hoher Göll massif. The hut is generally open from May through October and in winter by request only.

Staying overnight at Schneibsteinhaus

Schneibsteinhaus can accommodate about 70 people in its four dormitories, each with 12 to 16 beds, and in its private rooms. Until the end of 2019, Christa and Gottfried Strobl ran the Schneibsteinhaus as private tenants for nearly 40 years. Since 2020, Stefan Lienbacher has been the hut keeper at Schneibsteinhaus.

Hike to the Schneibsteinhaus

The hike to Schneibsteinhaus takes you from Lake Königssee along Hochbahnweg through shady spruce forest to Königsbachalm. Here, you leave the dense forest behind and continue across alpine meadows and through open stands of mountain pine, following a route parallel to the Königsbach gorge, to Schneibsteinhaus. The quickest route to Schneibsteinhaus starts at Hinterbrand and follows Königsweg. You can also reach the hut by mountain bike. The route to Schneibsteinhaus forms part of the Hoher Göll Loop mountain bike tour.
