Nestled at the foot of Kleiner Watzmann, Kührointhütte enjoys a truly spectacular setting. From the terrace, you'll be treated to stunning views of the Watzmann Ridge, one of the best vantage points from which to admire this iconic mountain. Whether you hike in for the day, arrive by mountain bike, or include it in a multi-day hut tour through the Watzmann massif, Kührointhütte is a rewarding destination.
Kührointalm is located between Königssee and Watzmann, making it one of the Berchtesgaden region’s most popular mountain destinations. If you'd like to stay overnight, Kührointhütte offers both shared mountaineers' rooms for up to six guests and twin rooms.
National Park information point
Kührointalm is home to the highest National Park information point in Berchtesgaden National Park. While you're here, take a moment to visit the small chapel, dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the Berchtesgaden mountains and consecrated to Saint Bernard of Aosta, the patron saint of mountaineers.
Hiking and mountain biking to Kühroint
Kührointalm is very popular with hikers. You can hike there from both Ramsau-Wimbachbrücke and Hammerstiel in Schönau. Many hikers combine the ascent with a hike up Grünstein. Experienced, physically fit and sure-footed mountaineers with a head for heights appreciate the Rinnkendlsteig trail, which leads from Sankt Bartholomä on Königssee up to Kühroint. The challenging Falzsteig trail to Watzmann or Watzmannhaus is also a popular continuation for physically fit mountain hikers.
There are also several options to choose from if you’re on a mountain bike: Signposted bike trails lead you either from Hammerstiel in Schönau or from the Wimbachbrücke in Ramsau up to Kühroint. Both trails converge at Schapbachalm and continue together from there to Kühroint.
Tip: Archenkanzel viewpoint
A detour from Kührointalm to Archenkanzel is definitely worth it. The viewpoint is located high above Lake Königssee and offers an impressive view down toward Sankt Bartholomä and about two-thirds of Königssee. From here, the Rinnkendlsteig trail leads down to the lake.
