The Untersbergbahn cable car carries you effortlessly up Salzburg’s local mountain, which rises to almost 1,900 meters. Just a short walk from the summit station at Geiereck, Hochalm invites you to stop for a relaxing break.
After the cable car was built, Untersberg still lacked a place to stop for food and drinks. So Fritz Baron Mayer-Melnhof, the owner of the mountain, had Berggasthof Hochalm built near the summit between 1961 and 1962—just a two-minute walk from the cable car’s summit station. The spacious main dining room and several smaller rooms offer plenty of space to relax over a meal. The real highlight, however, is the large terrace, where you can enjoy breathtaking views over the rooftops of Salzburg, the city of Mozart.
