From the Pfeiffenmacherbrücke parking lot in the mountaineering village of Ramsau, you’ll hike along a wide forest road to Eckaualm. Young cattle graze on the alpine meadows. However, the alpine pasture is not staffed.
Hike to Hochalm and beyond
The hike to Eckaualm begins at the Pfeiffenmacherbrücke parking area in Ramsau, Germany’s first Mountaineering Village. From there, a wide forest road leads through the woods on the northern slopes of Hochkalter to the alpine pasture.
If you continue beyond Eckaualm, you'll reach Hochalm. No longer used for alpine farming, it has become a popular destination for ski touring in winter. From here, several rewarding mountain hikes into the Hochkalter massif begin. Climb via Eisbodenscharte to Schärtenspitze and the Blaueis glacier, or follow the scenic route over Hochalmscharte down into the Wimbachgries valley.
Mountain biking to Eckaualm
The Eckau forest road is open to cyclists all the way to Eckaualm.
Approved cycling routes are marked with white signs featuring green lettering and symbols. These signs provide information about the destination, distance, and elevation gain.
If a route is not marked with these signs, cycling is not permitted in Berchtesgaden National Park—even if there is no "No Cycling" sign posted. Please note that violations are generally subject to a fine.
