Perched on a high plateau in the Lattengebirge, Dalsenalm is easy to reach from the Alpine town of Bad Reichenhall, the mountaineering village of Ramsau, and the municipality of Bischofswiesen. Whether you prefer to hike, ride a mountain bike, or take the Predigtstuhlbahn cable car followed by a scenic walk, several routes lead to this traditional alpine pasture.
Mountain biking to Dalsenalm
From Bad Reichenhall, you can ride your mountain bike along the Röthelbach forest road to Dalsenalm. This route is part of Mountain Bike Tour 16 to Moosenalm. Alternatively, you can follow the well-maintained hiking trails in the Lattengebirge: From Mordaualm or Lattenbergalm, the Ramsau Almerlebnisweg—a scenic hiking trail connecting the region's alpine pastures—leads via Moosenalm into the alpine pasture area. From there, a short detour brings you to Dalsenalm.
Original alpine landscape
Dalsenalm is covered with particularly nutrient-rich grasses, which provide the livestock with abundant grazing. In addition, there are very few weeds on the alpine pasture. A massive spruce tree by the side of the trail, whose branches reach all the way to the ground, is a visible sign of the quality of the soil.
In 1970, the Kasstöckl—the small cheese-making room from the Kaser belonging to Grainswiesenlehen in Bischofswiesen—was moved to the Bad Reichenhall Local History Museum. The relocation was initiated by Fritz Hofmann, the city's heritage conservation officer, together with the Reichenhaller Stubenmusik folk music group.
