Riemannhaus in Steinernes Meer

Alpine Club hut operated by DAV Section Ingolstadt

High above Maria Alm, Riemannhaus nestles against the sheer rock faces of Sommerstein—right at the edge of Steinernes Meer. Whether it’s your destination for the day or an overnight stop on a multi-day hut-to-hut hike, this Alpine Club hut welcomes you for a meal and a restful night in the mountains.

At an elevation of 2,177 meters in Steinernes Meer, above the Austrian towns of Saalfelden and Maria Alm am Hochkönig, you’ll find Riemannhaus, operated by DAV Section Ingolstadt. The hut stands in Ramseider Scharte, spectacularly nestled between Sommerstein and Breithorn, which rise steeply on either side.

Steinernes Meer

Thanks to its central location, Riemannhaus is one of the most important bases for mountaineers in Steinernes Meer. At an elevation of almost 2,200 meters, both the climb to the hut and the routes beyond require mountaineering experience and good stamina. From the Berchtesgaden region, you can reach Riemannhaus on a long hike through Steinernes Meer from Lake Königssee via Kärlingerhaus in about seven to eight hours. Routes from Maria Alm or Saalfelden on the Austrian side are considerably shorter.

Almer Pilgrimage

Every year on the Saturday after August 24, St. Bartholomew’s Day, the Almer pilgrimage across Steinernes Meer makes its way from Maria Alm to Lake Königssee. Riemannhaus is the first stop along the route. Here, the pilgrims gather for an early morning service before setting out across Steinernes Meer.
