History of the Waldquelle
In 1945, Franz Bönsch came to Ramsau as a displaced person from the Giant Mountains, where he found a new home. A keen mountaineer, he quickly felt at home in his new homeland. Over 50 years of membership in the Ramsau Mountain Rescue Service testify to his love of the Berchtesgaden mountains. In 1968, a café and snack bar with rooms for rent was opened in his own house. A long and rocky road began, from a pure excursion and tourist restaurant to an integral part of the mountaineering village of Ramsau, as a contact point for locals and guests alike.
At the age of 20, Franz's grandson, today's senior manager Thomas and his wife Andrea, took over the Waldquelle. In 2011, their son Andreas and his wife Christina joined the family business, bringing with them a breath of fresh air and new ideas. 2012 saw the opening of the first pizzeria in Ramsau.
However, the pub was already getting on in years and the space was very limited, so in 2015 they submitted a building application with the intention of being able to accommodate more guests and celebrate weddings, anniversaries etc. in Ramsau again in the future. The first part of the building work began in March 2017. The inn was open as normal during the summer season and construction work continued in October 2017. Just in time for the 50th anniversary in May 2018, the hall was inaugurated with music and good food.
