SalzAlpenSteig

Set out on a 233-kilometer journey along the cross-border SalzAlpenSteig premium hiking trail. Starting in Prien on Chiemsee, you hike through the rolling landscapes of the Chiemgau to Bad Reichenhall. From there, the trail leads you through Berchtesgaden and past the emerald waters of Königssee, continuing all the way to Obertraun on Hallstätter See at the foot of the Dachstein.

Along the way, three iconic lakes—Chiemsee, Königssee, and Hallstätter See—guide your path, each one marking a new chapter in the dramatic scenery that unfolds between the Alpine foothills and the high mountains. Three of the trail’s 18 stages take you right through Berchtesgaden.

Surrounding the SalzAlpenSteig premium long-distance hiking trail and its 18 daily stages, 25 additional loop hikes await: the SalzAlpenTours. These trails have also been certified as Premium Hiking Trails according to the strict criteria of the German Hiking Institute. Five of the SalzAlpenTours follow popular hiking trails through the Berchtesgaden region.
