SalzAlpenSteig

Set out on a 233-kilometer journey along the cross-border SalzAlpenSteig premium hiking trail. Starting in Prien on Chiemsee, you hike through the rolling landscapes of the Chiemgau to Bad Reichenhall. From there, the trail leads you through Berchtesgaden and past the emerald waters of Königssee, continuing all the way to Obertraun on Hallstätter See at the foot of the Dachstein.

Along the way, three iconic lakes—Chiemsee, Königssee, and Hallstätter See—guide your path, each one marking a new chapter in the dramatic scenery that unfolds between the Alpine foothills and the high mountains. Three of the trail’s 18 stages take you right through Berchtesgaden.

Beyond the 18 stages of the SalzAlpenSteig premium long-distance trail, 25 additional loop hikes are waiting for you: the SalzAlpenTours. Each one meets the strict standards of the German Hiking Institute and carries the official “Premium Trail” certification. Five of these SalzAlpenTours take you along well-known paths through the Berchtesgaden mountain experience.
