Your four-day hut-to-hut hike on Untersberg starts in Maria Gern. From here, you hike up to Stöhrhaus.
You begin the Untersberg Loop with a leisurely ascent along marked trails to Stöhrhaus. Spending the night at Stöhrhaus, operated by the Berchtesgaden section of the DAV on the Untersberg, is the first highlight of your four-day adventure.
You start at the hiking parking lot in Hintergern at an elevation of 780 meters. RVO bus 837 from Berchtesgaden Hauptbahnhof (central station) also stops here. Follow Untersbergweg (Alpine Club Trail 417) past Nußhof to Stöhrweg. After traversing the mountainside, you climb a series of switchbacks to Gatterl at 1,620 meters. Here, you’ll get your first glimpse of the Untersberg high plateau and enjoy views of the Berchtesgaden mountains before tackling the final stretch up to Stöhrhaus at 1,894 meters. If you still have some energy left, make the 30-minute climb to Berchtesgadener Hochthron at 1,972 meters, where spectacular panoramic views of the Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, and Chiemgau mountains await.
