Soleleitungsweg - Ramsau Brine Pipeline Trail

Originally, the brine pipeline was used to transport salty water, known as brine. Salt, also called “white gold,” ensured the prosperity of the Berchtesgadener Land region for centuries. At an information booth, you’ll discover the original wooden pipes—also known as “Deicheln”—and learn more about the history of the brine pipeline.

Follow the traces of “white gold” along the historic Soleleitungsweg, the Brine Pipeline Trail in Ramsau. Saltwater, known as brine, once flowed along this route and helped bring prosperity to the Berchtesgaden region for centuries. The picturesque mountaineering village of Ramsau is a paradise for ambitious hikers and mountaineers. If you prefer to take things at a more leisurely pace, Soleleitungsweg is an ideal choice. To shorten the hike and avoid the climb up from the valley, you can start at Zipfhäusl instead. The trail is open year-round, but sturdy footwear is still recommended.
