Discover the picturesque Hintersee in the mountaineering village of Ramsau on a leisurely loop hike right along the water.
With almost no incline, this trail—which is open year-round—takes you around Lake Hintersee, with the shore always at your side. On the north shore, you can take a break from your walk for a leisurely stop for refreshments.
You can start your loop around Lake Hintersee from any of the parking lots or bus stops around the lake. The trail around Lake Hintersee has a gravel surface throughout. At the edge of the Zauberwald (Magic Forest), a rugged landscape shaped by an ancient rockslide, you’ll reach the outlet of Lake Hintersee. There is also a kiosk here at the entrance to the Zauberwald. Continue alongside the road for about 500 meters before the trail turns right and leads you to the western shore. Information panels and artists’ easels tell the stories of the painters who were captivated by Lake Hintersee. The loop around the lake is also ideal for winter hiking, as the trail is cleared of snow and treated for ice.
