Visit the busy bees at Johannishögl in Piding

Humans and honeybees have lived in close harmony for thousands of years. For years now, however, a sense of fear has been spreading—and not just among beekeepers—because the bees are dying. About 80% of native cultivated and wild plants depend on honeybees and wild bees for pollination. The honeybee is therefore one of our most important livestock species. On the Piding Bee Trail, you can watch about half a million busy worker bees in action as they pollinate flowers and collect nectar. The Bee Trail takes you on a journey of discovery into the world of honeybees and wild bees. Discover the habitat and way of life of these wonderful insects.

Directions

From Berggasthof Johannishögl, follow the hiking trail behind the inn toward Neubichler Alm (follow the signs). First, walk downhill for a short distance into a small hollow until you reach a trail junction in the fields. Continue straight ahead to the beehouse, where you can watch the bees at work.

From there, continue uphill on a forest road. After about ten minutes, a narrow forest trail branches off to the right (follow the sign for Neubichler Alm). Follow this trail until the forest opens up and you reach Neubichler Alm. Return along the same route.
