Zoo Salzburg
Salzburg Zoo - Hellbrunn Zoo- Heute geöffnetAnif
In the south of Salzburg, just a 20-minute drive from Berchtesgaden, Salzburg Zoo is home to 150 animal species from all over the world. As you stroll through the zoo grounds, you can discover around 1,600 animals in spacious, natural enclosures and enjoy the panoramic view of the Berchtesgaden and Salzburg mountains.
Experience animal diversity
Native and exotic animals - from the alpine ibex to the pygmy marmoset - can be experienced up close at the zoo. The white-handed gibbons impress with their acrobatics while swinging and the spectacled penguins with their diving maneuvers, while the jaguars like to take a nap on the swing or the tree trunk. The lion house is a hive of activity when the free-flying Taranta parrots soar over the short-eared trumpeters living below. White rhino, sable antelope and lychee waterbuck share the spacious meadow of the African savannah. The alpacas and dwarf goats, which can be fed with the food available at the ticket office, are particularly popular with children.
Excursion destination for young and old
As a geozoo, Salzburg Zoo is divided into the areas of Eurasia, South America, Australia and Africa. Interested visitors can learn a lot about the different habitats of the animals and how the zoo is committed to species conservation. Guided tours such as the "Zoo Safari", the "Rendezvous with your favorite animal" or the evening tours in summer allow visitors to immerse themselves even more deeply in the zoo world. Children's birthday parties and vacation programs round off the offer for our youngest guests.
Modern zoo with history
As a place with a long history - there was already an archiepiscopal game park here in the 15th century - the zoo landscape impresses with its old trees and Hellbrunn's historic buildings. A large part of the zoo is nestled against the steep cliffs of Hellbrunn Hill, which form a natural boundary for the animal enclosures here. The grounds open up to the south and offer a beautiful view of the mountains.
