Eisenreich Mining Museum

  • Teisendorf - Achthal

The Achthal Mining Museum bears witness to the centuries-old extraction of iron on the Teisenberg and its processing in nearby Achthal.

During a visit to the Achthal Mining Museum, you can learn a lot about Salzburg and Bavarian mining and the eventful history of the Rupertiwinkel region via two time tables. The Achthal Mining Museum also uses the show tunnel to convey the way miners worked and lived in those days, with all the hardships and dangers. In addition to many models, e.g. of the location of the tunnels in nature and the arrangement in the mountain, the blast furnace model vividly illustrates the path from ore through iron extraction to the finished cast product. In the model carpentry workshop, the laborious preparation of the wooden mold and the casting box is demonstrated. The numerous collected casting exhibits provide an overview of the art of the smelters, molders and casters.

The Achthaler Kunstguss

The quality of the Achthal art casting was known far beyond the borders of the time. From the modest beginnings of the Heimatstube Achthal in 1984, the Achthal Mining Museum has been expanded several times. A fundamental redesign in 1999 and 2000, under the auspices of the State Office for Non-State Museums in Munich, led to today's main museum for Bavarian ore mining. A visit to the 24 themed rooms, each with almost 500 m² of exhibition space, offers many interesting things for visitors and locals alike. The buildings, some of which still exist today and are privately owned, complete the impression of the former mining town of Achthal.
