The only place to stay overnight on the Hirschau peninsula.
You can only stay at Ostwandlager with advance booking and payment. The shelter remains locked during the day. All 30 beds must be booked through the reservation system. Once you have paid, you will receive a door access code in time for your overnight stay. The Alpine Club section regularly checks the accommodations and their cleanliness.
Please note: There are no cooking facilities at Ostwandlager. The restaurant is not open in the evening.
Overnight stays are limited to climbers of the Watzmann East Face
Ostwandlager, also known as Ostwand-Hütte, is located on the Hirschau peninsula in Lake Königssee, at the foot of the Watzmann East Face. From early or mid-June through early or mid-October, you may stay at Ostwandlager for one night if you are climbing the Watzmann East Face. Overnight stays for any other tourist purpose are not permitted. No overnight stays are possible on the weekend of the Almer pilgrimage. Ostwand-Hütte remains locked during the day and is only opened after the last boat has departed from St. Bartholomä. The hut has a total of 35 dormitory beds.

Important information about overnight stays at Ostwandlager
Ostwandlager is an unstaffed shelter with no cooking facilities. The restaurant at St. Bartholomä is only open until the last boat departs across Lake Königssee, so you cannot buy food or drinks after that time. You may not use the restaurant’s outdoor seating area after it closes either—please be sure to respect this rule.
Running water and restrooms are located outside the shelter on the east side of the National Park information center. You cannot store luggage or use shower facilities at the St. Bartholomä restaurant. For your own safety, sign the hut register and note the route you plan to take. In the event of a rescue, the hut register provides important information for the mountain rescue service.
- Sign the hut register.
- Leave the shelter as clean as you would like to find it.
- Fold the blankets.
- Take your trash with you or dispose of it in the designated trash can.
