Watzmannhaus is perhaps the best-known mountain hut in the Berchtesgaden Alps. Spectacularly situated on Falzköpfl high above Berchtesgaden, this Alpine Club hut is a popular base for alpine tours in the Watzmann massif and a rewarding destination for a day hike.
Below Hocheck, one of the three main summits of Watzmann, Watzmannhaus welcomes you at an elevation of 1,930 meters in the heart of Berchtesgaden National Park.Operated by the Munich Section of the German Alpine Club, Watzmannhaus is one of the largest mountain huts in the Berchtesgaden Alps and one of the most visited German Alpine Club huts.
Day hike or overnight stay
Whether you stop at the hut during a day hike, climb Hocheck and Mittelspitze, or set out on the challenging Watzmann traverse, Watzmannhaus is the key base for your Watzmann adventure. You can hike up to Watzmannhaus from either the mountaineering village of Ramsau or Schönau a. Königssee. After spending the night at Watzmannhaus, you can climb to Hocheck at 2,651 meters, the first summit along the Watzmann ridge and the starting point of the legendary and highly challenging Watzmann traverse.
