Grünsteinhütte sits below the summit of Grünstein and welcomes you to its terrace with amazing views of the surrounding mountains—whether you’ve hiked over Grünstein or climbed the Grünstein via ferrata.
Whether outside on the sunny terrace or inside the rustic dining room, Grünsteinhütte offers plenty of cozy spots to enjoy a hearty snack or a sweet treat. Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy the homemade Kaiserschmarrn or a nice slice of cake, accompanied by a cup of coffee or a juice spritzer. For those who prefer savory fare, there are freshly fried cheese dumplings or a hearty slice of bread with bacon. And, of course, a cold beer from Hofbrauhaus Berchtesgaden to go with it.
Many trails lead up to Grünstein
There are several ways to hike up Grünstein. From the Hammerstiel parking lot, you can either take the wide forest road or follow the cardiovascular fitness trail, which features information boards every 100 meters of elevation gain to help you monitor your cardiovascular health. Another trail leads up from Königssee past the bobsled and luge track. The Isidor via ferrata offers routes of varying difficulty levels to the summit. A total of four routes lead up to the summit from the starting point above the bobsled and luge track. What they all have in common is crossing a suspension bridge at dizzying heights.
