Eating is a necessity, enjoying is an art: enjoy excellent Bavarian specialties with regional products and that certain something at the Goberg in Anger

A traditional inn surrounded by the picturesque idyll of the Alps, the "Goberg" Anger in the Rupertiwinkel. It is precisely this inn that shows what it is like when the landlord wants to maintain a tradition in which the village and the landlord work together to strengthen village life.

Goberg: An innkeeper with the village

The enchanting Lake Höglwörth with its former Augustinian monastery in the heart of a lively community with well-functioning social structures immediately won over the two specialists Peter Golab and Dennis Hackenberg and so they breathed new life into the former post inn, which can look back on almost five hundred years of history.

It was certainly no coincidence that King Ludwig I of Bavaria took a liking to Anger and described it as "his most beautiful village in the kingdom". Today, this very king is proudly enthroned on the coat of arms of the "Goberg" and attracts both curious tourists and locals to the old walls with his mischievous smile. Together with their friends, their family and especially the people of Anger, Dennis and Peter helped the inn to regain its former glory. But the two of them and their entire team don't just want to be a "normal pub", they want to be an attractive place to go with programs for young and old as well as for locals and guests. It starts with their own music project "GoBeats", which regularly provides musically appealing events. Not only performances with well-known local groups such as the Weißbiermusi, Monobo Son or the band So & So, but also with well-known musicians from Great Britain and America or, for example, the very successful band from Chiemgau "Mundwerk Crew", the Goberg regularly raises the roof.

Other events include the Höglwörthersee triathlon together with SC Anger, Bavarian evenings with a program from the traditional costume club and this year's SoccerCup, which is taking place for the first time. Another highlight is coming up again this summer, the German Strongman Championships with main organizer Heinz Ollesch, who is probably known to many in this scene. He has been Germany's strongest man several times and has also won a number of international titles. These and other events are organized together with the local clubs in order to achieve the best through mutual support.

Church fair in Anger

But first there is another annual event in Anger, the church fair on April 29/30 on the village square. As every year, it will attract hundreds of visitors to Anger over the two days. Here is a brief historical review by Rosi Fürmann: Until 1866, every village with a church celebrated the church consecration on the Sunday before or after the traditional consecration day and, if this was not known, on the patron saint's day. This church consecration was often followed by the right to a market - the church consecration or fair, where all kinds of necessities could be bought and many a couple could be found at the church consecration dance. For most of the year, there was a lively parish fair in the neighborhood that nobody missed. As people celebrated at least until "Irtag" (Tuesday), and in some places even until "Migga" (Wednesday), many working days fell victim to this exuberant custom. In 1866, a royal decree was therefore issued for Bavaria to adopt the date already set by the Habsburg Emperor Joseph II on September 11, 1786 for the 3rd Sunday in October. However, not all Bavarian villages adhered to this decree. Some villages retained the independence of their church fairs and still hold fairs today.

This also shows how well the social fabric in Anger works. The regulars' table, the "center" of an economy, where the carpenter, the baker, the woodcutter, etc. meet, contacts are made and everyone helps out and can contribute to the overall success in their own way. This strengthens responsibility, solidarity and identity. We support these driving forces through our open-mindedness, motivation, ideas and our visions for a better way of living together.
