A family-friendly loop trail leading to the large reservoir below the Jennerbahn’s mid-station. The trail is groomed in winter to make it easy to walk on.

The Speicherteich loop trail leads from the Jennerbahn mid-station down to the pond known as Speicherteich. Benches and sun loungers invite you to relax and enjoy views of Watzmann. The trail then takes you through the forest and back to the mid-station. The hike takes about 45 minutes. If you don’t take Jennerbahn to the mid-station, the quickest way to reach Speicherteich is from the Hinterbrand parking lot in Schönau am Königssee.

Watch out for cars and cyclists: The trail to Speicherteich also serves as an access road for the alpine pastures above Königssee. The mountain bike routes to Gotzenalm and Stahlhaus also follow this road.

Directions

From the Jennerbahn mid-station, follow the Speicherteich loop trail along Königsweg across the Krautkaser slope toward Hinterbrand. After the Krautkaser slope, the trail turns left and follows the road above the small reservoir toward Gotzenalm and Königsbachalm, descending to the large reservoir known as Speicherteich.

Make yourself comfortable on one of the many benches and enjoy the view of Watzmann as the Jennerbahn gondolas glide almost silently overhead.

Beyond the reservoir, follow the access road for a few more meters before the trail turns left and climbs through the forest back toward the Jennerbahn mid-station. Below Hugo-Beck-Haus, you emerge from the forest onto the open Jenner meadows.
