If you’re vacationing in the Rupertiwinkel region, don’t forget your swimsuit! In Anger, Lake Höglwörth awaits with a spacious lakeside lawn and a staffed kiosk. Lake Höglwörth is one of the warmest lakes in Bavaria.

The "Badstatt" on the north shore of Lake Höglwörth

From early on, locals and—with the advent of “summer retreats” in the municipality of Anger in the Berchtesgaden Rupertiwinkel in the 1920s, many visitors from near and far also took advantage of the waters of Lake Höglwörth—which warm up quickly in the spring—for relaxation and swimming.

At the so-called “Badstatt” on the northern shore of the lake, a swimming pier invited visitors to take a daring plunge into the water from an early time. Gradually, a diving tower and increasingly well-equipped facilities were added to the offerings.

Today, the sunbathing lawn with its café on the lake’s northern shore is a popular swimming spot for young and old alike.

Hiking trail around the lake

But it’s not just water lovers who feel right at home at Lake Höglwörth —walkers do too. On the shaded, nearly two-kilometer-long, and well-maintained hiking trail, you can walk around the lake in about half an hour. From the parking lot at Klosterwirt, the trail leads you across a footbridge over the lake’s outlet—the Rauschbach—and repeatedly offers views of the former Augustinian monastery in Höglwörth.
