Reichenhaller Haus on Hochstaufen- Unterhalb des Hochstaufen-Gipfels

- Beds
Reichenhaller Haus, also known as Staufenhaus, is located at an elevation of 1,750 meters, just a few meters below the summit of Hochstaufen, the local mountain of the Alpine town of Bad Reichenhall. It is the highest mountain hut in the Chiemgau Alps and offers an impressive view: The vista stretches across Lake Chiemsee and the Chiemgau Alps all the way to Salzburg.
A sunset on the Hochstaufen is especially atmospheric. From the hut, the sun seems to sink right into Lake Chiemsee—an unforgettable sight after the climb.
Hours and overnight stays at Reichenhaller Haus
Reichenhaller Haus is open from mid-May to mid-October, weather permitting. You can also spend the night at the hut, with six beds in shared rooms and 24 dormitory beds available.
The hut is closed in winter. There is no winter shelter.
Supplying Reichenhaller Haus
Reichenhaller Haus is not accessible by car. There is neither a road nor a material cable car. Supplying the hut is therefore particularly labor-intensive. Larger quantities of food and other supplies are occasionally delivered by helicopter. Day-to-day supplies, however, are carried up by the hut keeper himself in a traditional backpack frame along the cable-secured northern route—several times a week when necessary. This demanding supply system alone shows the extraordinary conditions under which Reichenhaller Haus operates.
