Mitterkaseralm below Jenner is a welcoming place to stop for a break—whether you’re hiking in summer or ski touring or sledding in winter.
Mitterkaseralm is a popular place to stop on Jenner. Take a well-earned break here during an alpine hike, or ride the Jennerbahn cable car up and enjoy a leisurely meal before hiking back down into the valley. In winter, ski mountaineers, sledders, and freeriders gather at Mitterkaser. Locals call it Klaus Maxei, after the family that has been running the hut for generations, with a few interruptions along the way.
At “Klaus Maxei”
Originally, Mitterkaseralm was a traditional alpine pasture that served as summer grazing land for the cattle of the Klauslehen farm in Bischofswiesen. In 1955, Max Resch, the grandfather of the current owner, opened a mountain restaurant. The grandfather, known as “Klaus Maxei,” was also the inspiration for Mitterkaser’s second name—even today, locals still call Mitterkaser “Klaus Maxei.” In 1972, Mitterkaser was expanded to its current size. In the 1980s, Max Resch handed over the alpine farm to Sepp Resch and his wife Rita. Both passed away at a young age, and Mitterkaser was leased out for several years starting in 2011. In 2015, Sepp Resch, the grandson of “Klaus Maxei,” took over Mitterkaseralm and has been running the alpine farm ever since.
