"I live for my job!" says Wolfgang Huber proudly as he enters his spacious, spotlessly clean kitchen. Sometimes he starts his day's work here before seven in the morning and often works late into the night. There is no time for leisure and that makes the job a hobby. His restaurant, the Bier Adam, is located in the heart of the market square, the historic center of Berchtesgaden. It is the oldest beer pub in the Berchtesgadener Land region - as documented.
The oldest beer pub in Berchtesgadener Land
People have been coming here to drink beer since 1546, although wine was more popular at the time. The princely monastery of Berchtesgaden owned considerable vineyards for this purpose in Lower Austria around Krems and Klosterneuburg from time immemorial. Until the middle of the 17th century, the so-called Pierhaus (beer tavern) was a specialty that became increasingly popular over the years. The Bier Adam has borne its current name since 1695, when Adam Haslinger was the landlord of the Pierhaus am Egg. Wolfi is also extremely proud of the long history of his establishment: "I identify one hundred percent with our historical responsibility. Whether it was almost 500 years ago or today, our ultimate goal is for guests to leave our restaurant satisfied."
Regional products for international guests
As a trained chef, Wolfi attaches great importance to regional products and the high quality of his dishes. The Huber family took over the Bier Adam in 1938. Wolfi and his partner Susi are now the third generation of the family to run the restaurant with great passion and spoil their guests with high-quality Bavarian dishes, from veal sausage burgers to Bavarian country chicken and pork knuckle. The Bier Adam has many international guests - the menu is available in seven languages.

Wolfgang Huber, Bier Adam: "Our recipe for Berchtesgadener Kal bslüngerl with Semmelknödl is a perfect match for our restaurant: traditional, tried and tested and popular. It's great to see how young people in particular are becoming interested in our traditional home cooking again."
